Background in Yoga and Philosophy

My interest in Yoga was kindled by my taking of religion & Asian philosophy classes in college. These classes exposed me to eastern philosophies and religions for the first time in my life & it was then that I first read the Bhagavad Gita as well as portions of Vedic texts.

These texts, especially the Gita seemed to me like they were pointing to some truth that I could always feel within me, but could never put words to. Throughout my life I have felt that there is something special about being human that most overlook in the pursuit of modern ‘happiness’ – whether that be material wealth, fame, social validation, or some other motive that emphasizes oneself. We have the power within us to heal, to care for all beings including those that are quite different from ourselves, to carefully consider our thoughts and actions; & yet humanity as a whole seems to be a plague on the world rather than a benefit to it. So, I’ve often thought about how we can each become the healing caring beings that I know we’re capable of being. Yoga & the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita seemed to provide with me an answer.
